Friendship, Discovery and Shared Experiences
Amigos da Rota is an MDSA initiative that brings couples and friends together through scenic road trips, shared experiences and a love of exploring South Africa. Meaning "Friends of the Route," the name reflects the spirit of the initiative: enjoying the journey together, building friendships and creating memories along the way.
Our aim is to strengthen connections within the community beyond the usual social gathering. Travelling together gives people time to get to know one another, share stories and celebrate the friendship, hospitality and sense of belonging that are central to our culture. It is also an opportunity to welcome new faces and build connections between generations.
The journey is part of the experience
Amigos da Rota combines scenic drives with visits to interesting destinations, cultural attractions and places of natural beauty. Participants travel in their own vehicles, following a planned itinerary with agreed stops and opportunities to spend time together.
This is a relaxed social touring experience, rather than a race or competitive motoring event. Responsible driving, respect for other road users and consideration for fellow participants are essential to making the experience enjoyable for everyone.
Our February 2027 getaway
The planned getaway takes place from 12 to 14 February 2027, travelling from the West Rand and East Rand through Mpumalanga to White River.
The itinerary includes stops at Alzu Petroport, Dullstroom and the Long Tom Pass viewing point, followed by a stay at Premier Hotel The Winkler. The weekend continues with visits to Pilgrim's Rest, the Diggings Site Museum, God's Window and the Casterbridge Motor Museum before participants return to Johannesburg at their own leisure.
What the package includes
The package includes a grab-and-go breakfast from Bem Bom The Glen, two nights' accommodation in a twin or double room with breakfast, dinner on 13 February, entrance to the Diggings Site Museum and Casterbridge Motor Museum, a welcome package, Amigos da Rota shirts, a participation certificate, and car numbers and decals.
Fuel, tolls, drinks, personal purchases and any meals or activities not expressly included in the confirmed package are for participants' own account. Final arrangements and inclusions will be provided with the booking information.
Building community through shared experiences
Through Amigos da Rota, MDSA hopes to create a tradition of exploring, connecting and enjoying life together. Each journey is an opportunity to strengthen existing friendships, form new ones and carry our community spirit into the places we visit.
Whether you come for the scenery, the company or the adventure of discovering somewhere new, you become part of a shared experience that continues long after the journey ends.
Good company. Beautiful roads. Memories to treasure.
